FROM MY WORLD

Why War Stories Beat Big Claims

A while back, I caught myself scrolling through marketing headlines and thinking, man… this stuff has gotten ridiculous.

Everywhere you look, someone is screaming numbers. Seven million dollars in 42 days. Two hundred grand in a weekend. Some magic plug-in that supposedly prints money while you sleep. And the longer you stay in this industry, the more obvious it becomes that most of those numbers are either cherry-picked, recycled, or completely detached from the reality of building a business.

Because the reality — the one nobody puts in the headline — looks very different.

Over the years, I’ve had campaigns flop so badly they burned through traffic budgets in record time. I’ve had clients ask for refunds six months into a coaching program while publicly calling me a scammer. I’ve had rip-off reports written about me, angry emails flooding my inbox, and experiments that looked brilliant on paper completely collapse the moment real traffic hit the page.

And strangely enough, those ugly moments are exactly what made my marketing better.

Not because failure is fun — it isn’t — but because every painful experience leaves an imprint on your brain that theory never could. When you’ve been punched by the marketplace enough times, you start to understand things about persuasion, trust, and human behavior that no course or book can fully teach.

I remember hearing a Russian comedian talk about this once in a video. She was giving relationship advice to her audience, and she said something refreshingly honest: the only reason she could speak about relationships with any authority was because she had already made every mistake imaginable — bad breakups, messy divorces, terrible decisions.

Her credibility came from the wreckage.

And when you look at the best marketers in history — guys like Dan Kennedy or Gary Halbert — you’ll notice they rarely try to impress you with giant numbers or flashy dashboards. What they do instead is tell war stories: the campaign that almost failed, the letter that bombed before it finally worked, the strange experiment that somehow turned into a breakthrough.

Those stories do something numbers can’t. They pull the reader into the journey.

When someone walks you through the battles they fought — the lost accounts, the bankrupt projects, the comebacks — it feels like you’re experiencing the lesson with them, which creates a kind of bond that slick marketing claims can never manufacture.

And that’s the real secret most people miss.

People don’t trust the marketer with the biggest claims. They trust the one with the most honest war stories.

MINDSET MAKEOVER

Why I’m Still Betting on the Inbox

Every few months, someone tells me email marketing is dying.

Usually, the argument sounds convincing on the surface. Open rates are lower than they used to be. Click-through rates have dropped. Social media platforms keep launching new features, new algorithms, and new ways to supposedly reach people faster.

And yet after all these years, email is still the one channel I refuse to abandon.

Because the modern customer has changed in a very important way.

People don’t want to talk to salespeople anymore. They don’t want phone calls, they don’t want chat boxes popping up, and they definitely don’t want someone trying to pressure them into a decision. The average buyer today would rather sit quietly behind a screen, do their own research, read a few opinions, and decide for themselves who they trust.

Which means the most powerful marketing medium isn’t the loudest one. It’s the one that feels like a private conversation.

When someone opens an email, it doesn’t feel like a broadcast to thousands of people. It feels personal — like a note from a friend explaining something over coffee. That quiet, one-to-one feeling creates trust in a way public platforms simply can’t replicate, especially when the average Facebook page only reaches about 6% of its own followers without paying for ads.

So while everyone else is chasing the newest platform or algorithm, I’m still focusing on the one place where the conversation actually belongs.

The inbox.

If you want influence online, stop trying to shout into a crowded room.

Start writing messages that feel like they were meant for one person.

FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE

Incognito Affiliate Marketing With Kameron George

Most people in internet marketing chase the loudest voices.

The flashy gurus. The Lamborghinis. The screenshots.

But every once in a while, you meet someone who’s the exact opposite — a person quietly operating behind the scenes while producing results that make most “gurus” look like amateurs.

That’s exactly why this episode with Kameron George is worth your attention.

Kameron isn’t the guy constantly shouting on social media, yet two of his companies generated over $50 million in sales within 12 months through affiliate marketing and lead generation. Even more interesting, several big names in the industry built their success on systems he helped design.

What makes this conversation powerful isn’t tactics. It’s the principles.

We talk about ideas like user experience, pre-framing, and funnel economics — concepts that explain why some campaigns barely break even while others scale into multi-million-dollar machines.

So if you’re the type who likes to listen to podcasts while driving or working out, this might be the one episode where you slow down and grab a notebook.

CURATED READS

The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco

Most personal finance books tell you to slow down.

Save a little. Invest a little. Wait forty years.

MJ DeMarco walks in and flips the entire table.

What hit me about this book isn’t the flashy title — it’s the brutal honesty about how wealth actually works. DeMarco breaks down why the traditional “work for decades and retire someday” plan keeps most people stuck, and why the real leverage comes from building systems that produce value at scale.

That idea alone can change how you look at business.

Because the goal isn’t to earn more hours… It’s to own something that grows without them.

Read it when you’re ready to stop playing the slow game.
