FROM MY WORLD

$17 Is All It Took to Unlock $500 Upsells and 6-Figure Weeks

Not too long ago, I was the guy who couldn’t close a sale to save his life.

I started with MLM—the “passive income” dream—where I had to convince people to not only buy a product but keep buying it every month... and then convince them to convince others to do the same.

Spoiler alert: I sucked.

After months of hustling and getting nowhere, I finally threw in the towel and thought, “Maybe affiliate marketing will be easier.”

Easier? Sure. At least I didn’t have to build a cult following to make sales. But profitable? Not so much.

I was so bad at it, it took me two years to see my first commission check.

Meanwhile, I’d watch these super affiliates—guys like Frank Kern, Mike Filsaime, and Ryan Deiss—crush it on leaderboards and rake in cash while I struggled to get a single sale.

But then I figured out their secret...

Two things separated them from the pack:

  1. Authority. Their word carried weight. When they said, “Buy this,” people didn’t just listen—they acted.

  2. A List. They had a following of buyers who trusted them and bought over and over again.

That’s it.

Not fancy funnels.
Not magic traffic hacks.
Not shady link cloaking tricks.

Just authority and a list.

So, I stopped chasing shiny objects and focused on building my email list and creating a product of my own.

At first, it was nothing fancy—a $17 course on building squeeze pages. Then it became a $37 offer. Eventually, it had a $500 upsell.

Suddenly, my little product was pulling in buyers. I went from begging for sales to making $100,000 a week promoting affiliate products to my list.

But let me be clear—this isn’t about numbers. It’s about leverage.

When you have authority and a list, everything changes.

You can:

  • Send one email and make thousands in commissions overnight.

  • Partner with other big names and have them mail for you.

  • Scale your income without chasing leads like a madman.

And the best part? You don’t need thousands of buyers. All you need is 300—just 300 buyers—to make six figures a year.

Do the math.

If each buyer is worth $500, that’s $150,000.
If they’re worth $1,000? That’s $300,000.

And these aren’t hypothetical numbers. This is what I live every day.

So, here’s the takeaway: If you want to be a super affiliate, stop chasing quick wins and start building your list.

And don’t just collect emails—create a buyer’s list. Sell something—anything—so you can segment buyers and roll out the red carpet for them.

Because buyers? They buy again... and again... and again.

This is how you go from zero sales to leaderboard domination. No gimmicks. No BS. Just authority and a list.

Now go make it happen.

MINDSET MAKEOVER

Screw Perfection

Here’s a truth bomb most marketers won’t admit: You don’t need to be perfect to make sales. In fact, trying to look perfect? That’s what’s stopping you from making sales.

Let me explain.

People buy from people they like and trust. Period. And you don’t build trust by being flawless.

You build it by being real—flaws and all.

Take my buddy David, for example. David’s a self-proclaimed professional “nothing-doer.” He openly admits he’s lazy. Says he procrastinates. Doesn’t sugarcoat a thing.

And guess what? He’s crushing it.

He has a rabid fan base of just a few hundred people who follow him into any deal he promotes—and he makes six figures a year doing it.

Why? Because he owns his flaws.

When you lead with honesty—when you say, “Yeah, I’m messy” or “I can’t stick to schedules to save my life”—people stop judging you.

They lean in. They respect you for being real in a world where most people are hiding behind masks and fake smiles.

Now, here’s the kicker: It’s not just about admitting your flaws. It’s also about not caring who doesn’t like you. Because the truth is, some people will hate you no matter what you do.

  • They’ll hate your emails.

  • They’ll hate your ads.

  • They’ll even hate your hair.

So, instead of bending over backward to please everyone, focus on attracting your perfect customers—the ones who get you.

Those are the people who’ll buy from you, again and again. And this mindset shift isn’t just for emails or sales calls—it’s for everything you create:

  • Emails

  • Videos

  • Webinars

  • Ads

Don’t try to be “vanilla.” Stop worrying about offending people. Take a stand. Share your opinions. Own your quirks.

I do this all the time.

For example, I openly disagree with Andre Chaperon’s email strategy (the guy’s a genius, but his method just isn’t for me).

And you know what? That opinion attracts people who share my views—and repels the ones who don’t.

And that’s perfectly okay. Because the goal isn’t to please everyone. The goal is to build trust with the right ones.

So here’s your action step:

  • Make a list of your flaws—personally and professionally.

  • List out the weaknesses of your product or service.

  • Share them openly in your marketing.

You’ll be amazed at how quickly people start to trust—and buy from—you.

Own your flaws. Stop seeking approval. Start building real connections.

That’s how you win.

A hot-button question. So I hop on the call with the best guy out there to show us the nitty-gritty – Michael Mansell.
