FROM MY WORLD

FOMO, Fear, and Fast MoneyAds

I’ll admit it—I got seduced. It wasn’t a person (though my wife might argue otherwise).

It was crypto trading.

I mean, can you think of anything more tempting than throwing some cash into an app, sitting back, and watching it multiply like rabbits in springtime?

So, there I was, sipping coffee, scrolling through endless charts and crypto memes, thinking, “What if I miss out?”

You see, it all started when a buddy of mine—someone I respect—went all-in on crypto. And I’m not talking dipping his toes. I’m talking cannonball-style, leaving behind a thriving business to ride the Bitcoin wave.

Naturally, I had questions:

  • Was he crazy?

  • Did he know something I didn’t?

  • And more importantly… Was I about to miss the biggest money train of the decade?

But here’s the problem: Crypto has its own secret language—bear trends, Fibonacci extensions, stop losses—like a cult with its own dictionary. And me? I felt like the kid in class who didn’t do his homework.

I was terrified of losing money.

I procrastinated like a champ. I told myself I was too busy running my business and too broke to risk losing a few grand—even though, let’s be real, I could.

And yet… The fear of missing out gnawed at me harder than the fear of losing.

So I dove in. I threw $10K at it.

The results? Well, let’s just say I wasn’t exactly sailing to the Bahamas. My trades went up 60% of the time and down 40%—which meant I was basically running in place.

But this isn’t about crypto. It’s about the emotional rollercoaster we all ride when we face something new.

Because whether it’s trading Bitcoin or starting an online business, the process is the same:

Step 1: Freak out.
Step 2: Procrastinate.
Step 3: Obsess about it until you either take the leap—or lose your mind.

And as marketers, we forget this. We expect people to jump off the fence and buy the second they hear our pitch.

But that’s not how it works.

Just like I needed time to get comfortable with crypto, your prospects need time to warm up to your offer. They need to obsess over it, stress about it, and feel like they can’t live without it before they buy.

And that’s why email follow-ups, videos, and webinars matter.

Because most people won’t decide to buy the first time they see your offer. And if you rush them, you’ll scare them off faster than a Bitcoin crash.

So remember this: Your job isn’t to force people off the fence. It’s to guide them there step-by-step—until the only logical move left is to jump.

MINDSET MAKEOVER

I Joined a Workshop (Not a Cult) and Finally Faced My Fears

A few years ago, I found myself sitting in a conference room in Toronto with six strangers, wondering if I’d accidentally joined another cult.

I mean, it wouldn’t be my first time.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably remember my actual cult story in Florida—the one with fairy dust, group hugs, and a whole lot of “manifesting.”

But this time was different. This wasn’t about kumbaya circles and hugging trees. It was about tackling real fears, crushing self-doubt, and setting goals that actually scare you—in the best way possible.

The workshop was hosted by my friend Craig Ballantyne, and despite the “perfect life” branding that made me roll my eyes a little, I left with five insights that completely flipped my mindset.

Insight #1: The Environment Matters More Than the Advice.

Let’s be honest—most advice isn’t new. I’ve read all the books. I’ve watched all the YouTube gurus. Yet, it never sticks the way it should.

Why? Because environment is everything.

Sitting in that room, surrounded by people who weren’t just talking about growth but living it, forced me to internalize the lessons I’d been brushing off for years. Suddenly, the same advice I’d read a hundred times hit me like a slap in the face.

If you’re stuck, it might not be your ideas that are broken. It might be your environment.

Insight #2: Everyone’s Problems Look the Same from the Inside.

Here’s the kicker—despite our different income levels, we were all wrestling with the same demons.

  • Fear of raising prices.

  • Fear of launching products.

  • Fear of outsourcing and losing control.

And when we voiced those fears, guess what? Someone else in the room had already solved them.

One guy was stuck on publishing his first book—something I’ve been procrastinating on for six months. Another was terrified to raise his rates—something I’d already mastered years ago.

The result? We swapped insights, punched through roadblocks, and walked out feeling like unstoppable badasses.

Insight #3: Vagueness Kills Dreams.

You know what’s harder than setting big goals? Being specific about them.

Craig forced us to get painfully clear about what we wanted. Not just “make more money” but how much and by when. Not just “get fit” but lose 10 pounds by March 1st.

Turns out, vague goals are the enemy of success. When you’re fuzzy about what you want, your brain treats it like a nice-to-have—not a must-have.

So, if you’re stuck, ask yourself this: Do you actually know what you’re working toward—or are you just hoping something good happens?

Insight #4: Fear Is a Liar (But It’s Also a Sneaky Teacher).

I used to think publishing a book was this god-like achievement reserved for superhumans. I was wrong.

Two people at the workshop had already published books—and their advice boiled down to this: “Stop overthinking it and just get it done.”

Fear had been feeding me lies for months—telling me I wasn’t ready, my manuscript wasn’t good enough, and the whole thing would flop.

Sound familiar? Whether it’s launching your first product, building your email list, or finally raising your prices, fear will tell you it’s too hard.

But here’s the truth—it’s never as scary as it seems once you start.

Insight #5: Action Beats Anxiety Every Time.

By the end of the workshop, I’d committed to launching my book within 30 days. The next morning, I did something I’d been avoiding for months—I emailed editors, picked one, and got the ball rolling.

The manuscript was in the final stages, and I could finally see the finish line.

But the biggest takeaway? Momentum solves more problems than thinking ever will.

So, if you’re feeling stuck—whether it’s in your business, your mindset, or your goals—stop trying to figure it all out alone.

Sometimes, you just need to get in the right room with the right people and let the environment do the heavy lifting.

In the meantime, stop letting fear run the show.

Face it. Fight it. And then finish it.
