FROM MY WORLD

The 48-Hour Cash Machine

Years ago, I was in a mall, at a dying computer store, killing time with a working PC, the only perk the job offered.

That morning, I pushed traffic to a funnel called “The 48-Hour Cash Machine” and watched two $197 sales hit my account in a day. That one day paid roughly a week's worth of my wage, so I bought groceries and felt like I’d hacked reality.

At first, it was pure luck. I ran promotions like experiments, ten at a time, and my success rate was about 15–20%: two wins out of ten, one meaningful. Because I kept running promos, I learned the patterns — which offers converted, which didn’t — but the lessons came as shocks.

Now, in June and July, I had promotions that bombed so hard they left me scratching my head and saying, “What?” out loud. That happened even after hundreds of tries; I estimate I’d run 500 promotions by then.

Here’s the truth: you can’t predict the winner without the test. So I kept iterating. Two sales turned into sporadic $400 weekends; then, slowly, my hit rate climbed. I flipped from being right 20% of the time to being wrong 20% — which means I’m right most of the time now.

The change? Pattern recognition earned from volume and the brutal feedback loop of live offers, landing pages, and real dollars in my inbox.

You don’t need a perfect strategy. You need a setup that lets you fail fast and learn faster. When you run the promotion, you can track the numbers and learn the pattern.

MINDSET MAKEOVER

The Hidden Curse No One Talks About

Most people think the shiny-object problem fades once you “make it.” Here’s the truth: it gets louder. When you’ve got money, time, and wins under your belt, every trend looks like a shortcut you deserve to cash in on — and that’s exactly where you screw yourself.

Take the classic winner’s curse. You get one big thing right, and suddenly you trust your gut like it’s a crystal ball. That Gatorade guy proved it. He bought it for around $300M, sold for $1.8B… then decided he “liked” Snapple too and burned about $800M. One win made him blind. That’s what success does if you’re not paying attention.

I’ve watched the same thing happen in our world. People doing $1M… $3M… even $10M a year chasing four new niches at once because everything “looks promising.” And because they’re winners, they assume they can’t miss. Then they miss everything.

The real rule is simple: success multiplies your options, which means it also multiplies your mistakes.

So you need a filter. A real one. The kind that forces you to ask, “Does this belong in my flywheel, or am I just bored?” Most people won’t do it, because saying “no” feels like leaving money on the table.

But the only thing you lose when you over-focus is regret. What are you saying “hell no” to this week?

FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE

What Problem Do You Want to Solve?

Mark Manson is the guy who taught me to stop chasing a perfect life and start choosing better problems. In this episode, he flips the usual self-help question: instead of asking what will make you happy, ask what problems you enjoy solving. That line alone rewired how I think about work.

He walks through the Learn–Do–Teach loop, the value of trying and failing, and why passion is practical — not woo, but a productivity hack. One concrete moment: he admits he wrote his book idea on a beach with no internet, and later launched a $4-a-month paid hub for deep content. That’s the tradeoff — less chasing, more choosing.

If you want to stop pretending you need the next big idea and start building something that actually lasts, press play. This one will annoy you, help you, and make you rethink what you’re willing to suffer for.

CURATED READS

The New Rules of Marketing and PR by David Meerman Scott

If the traditional “build it and they will come” marketing advice still lives somewhere in your brain like a stubborn malware… This book is the reset button.

David Meerman Scott doesn’t just explain the new rules — he basically exposes why most businesses today are still trying to win a Formula 1 race while driving a horse carriage.

What I love about this book is that it forces you to confront a painful truth:

The online world doesn’t reward the loudest marketer… it rewards the most useful one.

Scott breaks down the psychology behind content that spreads, messages that convert, and brands that attract loyal fans instead of chasing cold strangers.

Is it written for beginners? Yes.
Is it a slap-in-the-face reminder for experts who drifted off into “marketing fantasy land”? Also yes.

If you want to understand the marketing landscape you’re actually operating in — instead of the one you wish existed — this book is required reading.

Can You Crack The Code?

I’m heavy when alone and lighter with a crowd;
I turn small sparks into fires, quiet into loud.
You don’t own me, yet I grow with each share;
What am I that multiplies what you dare?

I make people move faster than reason would suggest.
I disappear when there’s plenty and scream when there’s little.
Marketers use me like a drumbeat; procrastinators curse my name.

The answer is: Scarcity.
