FROM MY WORLD

The Single Word That Reveals The Real Person

I’ve never called myself a world-class negotiator. There are people out there who negotiate like Navy SEALs of persuasion. But deal after deal, I somehow walk away with results that surprise even me. And the funny part? It’s not skill. It’s that most people negotiate completely backwards.

Everything starts with the word everyone avoids: NO. A yes can be fake. A no never is. No is honest. No is the moment the real person finally shows up. So I shape questions that make “NO” feel safe—“Would you hate this idea?” “Is this ridiculous?”—because once someone gets to reject you, the tension drops and the real talk begins.

But honesty alone won’t save you if emotions are in charge. That’s where labeling becomes the cheat code. When someone feels misunderstood, you could offer them a suitcase of cash, and they’d still fight you. But say, “Sounds like you’re frustrated,” and their emotional armor falls off like loose screws. And if you mislabel them? Even better. They’ll correct you and tell you exactly what’s really going on.

Here’s the most underrated move of all: keep asking.

People avoid asking because they’re terrified of hearing no, which is wild because no is where all the leverage lives. So I teach my daughter—and remind myself daily—to ask again, and again, and again, until the door opens or we realize we can build a better one anyway.

MINDSET MAKEOVER

The Cheat Code No One Told You About

Most people think confidence shows up after they win. Like you unlock it once life finally approves of you. Here’s the truth: if you wait for applause before you back yourself, you’re cooked. I learned that at 18, when starting a “success diary” felt like the dumbest idea I’d ever tried.

Back then, I didn’t have much to brag about. No trophies or big wins. Just parents who expected excellence but rarely pointed out the effort it took to get there. So writing down tiny daily “successes” — eating broccoli, reading one page, trying something new — felt like cosplay. But a weird thing happened: the more effort I tracked, the more capable I felt. Because wins are rare, but effort is renewable.

Fast-forward to now, and I’m doing it with my kids. At one point, my daughter hit over 10,380 logged successes and practically floated around the house like she’d unlocked a cheat code. My son had just started his list and got offended when he had “only five.” That’s the moment he figured out effort is a game — and he wanted more.

Here’s the part most adults still miss: you don’t build confidence by achieving, you build it by noticing you showed up.

FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE

21-Day Follow-Up Engine Every Marketer Needs

In this episode, Jon Weberg drops a stat that should make most marketers sweat: nearly every business thinks they’re following up correctly… and almost none are. My favorite moment is when he explains why a basic “check-in” email barely scratches the surface of real relationship-building.

Jon breaks buying behavior into two types: the instant buyers and the slow burners. He shows why the slow group is where most of your money actually hides. That’s why he builds campaigns that run 21 days, each week with a different focus: education, social proof, storytelling. And here’s the kicker: he uses multiple sales pages, not one. Emotion-based pages, testimonial pages, educational angles, all working together to catch people from every direction.

This episode matters because most people are terrified of “spamming,” while their prospects are drowning in noise anyway.

CURATED READS

Made to Stick by Chip & Dan Heath

This book explains why some ideas explode… while others vanish without a trace.

The Heath brothers break down the six traits that make messages unforgettable: simple, unexpected, concrete, credible, emotional, and story-driven.

Why does it matter for your business?

Because if your message doesn’t stick, it doesn’t sell. This book shows you how to make people remember you — and act on what you say.

Short, practical, and full of examples you’ll still recall months later.

RIDDLE ME THIS

Can You Crack The Code?

I keep knocking after the door shuts.
Ignored, I become silence; tended, I become revenue.
I turn maybe into yes, one message at a time.

What am I?

Think you've cracked the code? Reply to this email with your guess, and see if you're right!

I grow stronger when you say “no.”
I shrink when you try to please everyone.
I turn noise into signal and save you from the crowd.

The answer is: Qualification.
