Soul Boom – A Book That’s Surprisingly NOT Boring

FROM MY WORLD
This Format Shift Increased Authority Perception by 10X
Here’s a wild little marketing paradox for you…
You can spend days crafting a beautifully designed, data-packed, dopamine-drenched PDF.
Pour your heart, soul, and way too much time into it.
And once someone downloads it?
Poof.
It disappears into the abyss of their “Downloads” folder…
Never to be seen again.
Don’t believe me?
Let me give you a real example.
I was watching dad joke videos (I’m a dad—it’s a sacred ritual), when a Russian ad popped up promising the secrets to longevity.
And get this—they offered a PDF report with groundbreaking studies.
I downloaded it.
It was slick. Professional. Actually impressive.
Graphs, insights, the whole nine yards.
But ask me who made it?
I have no clue.
Meanwhile…
I bought a physical book on investing in overseas real estate by Kathleen Peddicord.
Same idea—valuable info, niche topic.
But this one showed up in my mailbox. I could hold it. Flip through it. Leave coffee stains on it.
And now?
I remember her name.
I remember her brand.
Because she gave me a book, not a file.
You see where I’m going with this?
It’s not about the content.
It’s about the container.
A PDF feels cheap.
A printed book? That screams credibility. Authority. Value.
And here’s the hilarious part…
Most of those “real” books out there?
They started life as a PDF.
My own bestseller, The List Building Lifestyle?
Yup. Just a polished PDF uploaded to Lulu.com.
Now it sits on shelves and in mailboxes around the world.
Hell, even Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck* was a glorified blog post compilation.
But put it in book form and boom—instant bestseller, speaking gigs, ghostwriting for Will Smith.
You getting the picture?
A PDF makes you a marketer.
A book makes you a thought leader.
An authority.
A name worth remembering.
And if you still think this is just about marketing…
Try telling your kid how to kick a soccer ball.
He’ll ignore you.
Now get his coach to say the exact same thing?
Suddenly, he’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Same words. Different source. Different perceived value.
The world doesn’t reward content.
It rewards presentation.

MINDSET MAKEOVER
You’re Not a Pastor—Stop Preaching to Everyone
Let’s get one thing straight…
You’re not gonna convert everyone.
Not today. Not tomorrow. Not ever.
And that’s a damn good thing.
Most rookie marketers treat their list like a church service—everyone’s welcome, everyone gets the same love, and God forbid they offend a single subscriber.
Here’s what that does:
You water down your message
You hold back on your personality
You end up with a list full of “meh” people who never buy anything
Let me save you years of agony: the point of your list isn’t to make everyone happy.
It’s to filter out the wrong people and pull the right ones closer.
Your email list isn’t a party.
It’s a polarizing magnet.
You should be actively repelling folks who aren’t your tribe.
Let them unsubscribe. Let them ghost you. Good riddance.
Because every time you try to speak to everyone…
You speak to no one.
Real email marketing—the profitable kind—is about attracting the right people and gently pissing off the rest.
The magic happens when your subscribers feel like you're inside their head.
That doesn’t come from shouting “Buy now!” or throwing a thousand “free value” bombs.
It comes from knowing your audience so well, they’re shocked you’re not reading their diary.
And here’s a little twist of the knife:
Most marketers don’t email at all.
They’re too scared.
Scared of annoying someone. Scared of rejection. Scared to sell.
But not emailing your list is like owning a Ferrari and never leaving the garage because you’re afraid of scratches.
You built the list. You earned that trust. Use it.
Talk to them.
Help them.
Entertain them.
Sell to them.
And please, for the love of autoresponders—tell stories.
Stories resonate. Stories sell.
Stories don’t scream “BUY!”—they whisper, “I get you.”
The bottom line?
If your list is just a bunch of unsegmented, silent strangers who never hear from you…
You don’t have a business.
You have a graveyard.
So start writing.
Start filtering.
Start connecting.
And for once… stop trying to please the zombies.

The Anti-Viral Content Playbook with Garin Etcheberry
Ever feel like you’re posting non-stop but no one’s buying? In this episode, I sit down with Garin Etcheberry, founder of Lazy Longform and Sixty Second Shows, to dismantle the idea that going viral equals getting paid.
We dive into why viral content kills trust, how to build binge-worthy media that sells, and how to create content that fuels your list, not just your ego. Garin shares wild behind-the-scenes stories from working with Mike Dillard and James Altucher, to helping a Miss Olympia open up about body image.
If you’re ready to stop chasing likes and start building a brand that converts, grab your coffee and hit play.

CURATED READS
Soul Boom – A Book That’s Surprisingly NOT Boring
Alright, confession time…
When I saw that Dwight Schrute (yes, from The Office) wrote a book about spirituality, my first reaction was,
“Great… another celebrity trying to get deep.”
But damn, Rainn Wilson’s Soul Boom actually delivers.
This isn’t your typical “woo-woo crystals and manifest your Porsche” nonsense.
It’s a sharp, witty, brutally honest take on why we need a spiritual revolution—and not in a preachy, incense-burning kind of way.
More like, “Hey, the world’s on fire, and maybe our souls are starving. Let’s talk.”
Wilson blends pop culture, ancient wisdom, and straight-up comedy into a punchy message that hits you in the gut and makes you think.
Like, what if the real wealth you’re chasing has more to do with your purpose than your profit margin?
If you’ve ever felt like the hustle was missing something deeper…
If you’ve wondered why success sometimes feels empty…
This book will slap you awake.
Just a heads up—don’t expect life hacks or funnel tactics here.
This one’s for your inner game.
Add it to your “read before you die” list.
Or better yet, read it now—before the next Instagram reel distracts you into oblivion.
