Why Your Aunt Thinks You’re a Criminal

“The Great Ones' Business Fable” by Don Barden

FROM MY WORLD
Why Your Aunt Thinks You’re a Criminal
Have you ever noticed how the moment you start talking about making real money—like six-figures-from-home kind of money—people’s faces twist up like you just admitted to clubbing baby seals?
I’ve seen it a million times.
You're sitting there, excited about a new opportunity, a breakthrough idea, or just your first online sale… and BOOM—someone drops the hammer:
"That sounds risky."
"Money isn’t everything."
"You know, if it comes easy, it doesn’t last."
"You’re not turning into one of those greedy people, are you?"
Let me make something obvious:
Money doesn’t care.
It doesn’t care where you came from.
It doesn’t care how hard you worked.
It doesn’t care if you’re a saint or a scammer.
If money had a conscience, kindergarten teachers would be ballin’ in Bentleys and drug dealers would be broke.
But that’s not how it works.
Because money is completely indifferent.
It flows to those who know how to attract it, not the ones who sweat the most or pray the hardest.
And that’s where the first big myth falls apart.
“Rich people are just lucky or born into it.”
Wrong.
Most wealthy folks are first-gen.
They made tough calls. Took real risks. Worked smart. Leveraged time, tools, and mindset.
Luck? Maybe.
But luck only matters after you’ve put yourself in the game.
Next up?
“Money is the root of all evil.”
That line has destroyed more dreams than bankruptcy ever did.
And no one walks around chanting it out loud, but the belief shows up in sneaky ways.
Like when people self-sabotage right after a big win.
Or feel guilty about charging what they're worth.
Or give away success because they “didn’t earn it the hard way.”
Let me break it to you gently:
Whether you grind 16 hours a day or make your cash in your sleep…
Your money buys the same damn groceries.
But here’s the real gut punch…
Even if you figure this all out—if you finally get that success isn’t evil, money isn’t moral, and leverage is not cheating—there’s still one sneaky villain that can wreck your shot at freedom:
The Fear of Judgment.
This one’s the silent killer.
You’ll feel it the moment you start doing something different than your family, your town, your broke cousin Bob who still thinks Bitcoin is a pyramid scheme.
You’ll get the passive-aggressive looks.
The awkward silences at Thanksgiving.
Maybe even full-blown interventions where people think you’ve joined a cult.
But here’s the truth…
If you can’t stand up to your loved ones’ doubts, you’ll never stand up to the market.
And you’ll end up right where they are—broke, bitter, and confused about why nothing ever changes.
So yeah…
Money doesn’t care.
The question is—do you?
Are you ready to break the myths and start living life by your design?
Because the only thing standing between you and that life…
It is the belief that you don’t deserve it.

MY GIFT FOR YOU
What’s $3.99 Worth to You?
There’s a window in every online entrepreneur’s life where they ask:
“Why the hell am I working so hard… and still not making real money?”
I hit that wall years ago. Then I built something that flipped the script.
I wrote this short book to show you exactly what I did — the system I still use today to turn emails into income, without chasing trends or dancing for clicks.
And yeah — it costs less than gas to get to work.
But don’t let the price fool you.
This isn’t a book you buy. It’s a fork in the road.

MINDSET MAKEOVER
Not Everyone Survives This Phase
Ever feel like you're stuck in quicksand—hustling, trying, buying course after course—and somehow getting nowhere?
Yeah. You’re not lazy.
You’re not dumb.
You’re just… directionless.
And directionless hustling is just treadmill misery in disguise.
The cold truth?
Most people who jump into online business never get past that blurry stage where everything looks like an opportunity and nothing gets finished.
One week it’s affiliate marketing.
Next week, it’s dropshipping.
By next month, they’re knee-deep in crypto, Facebook ads, AND trying to launch a podcast with their cousin Jimmy.
(No offense to Jimmy. I’m sure he’s lovely.)
But here’s what separates the drifters from the crushers: clarity.
Clarity isn't about picking the “right” method. It’s about knowing why you’re even doing any of this in the first place.
You want to quit your job?
Cool.
You want to work from the beach in Bali?
Nice.
But let’s be real. That’s not deep enough.
Not deep enough to keep you going when your fuel tank or the power goes out.
The people who break through have a visceral reason.
A “burn-the-boats” kind of why.
Like the guy who got denied Christmas with his daughter because “corporate needs” came first.
He didn’t just want money.
He wanted freedom on demand.
To say “FU” to any boss who thought quarterly revenue was more important than being a present father.
That kind of clarity?
That kind of fire?
It moves mountains.
He didn’t just want success.
He needed it.
So when a blizzard knocked out the power in his town, he didn’t sit and whine.
He booked a hotel downtown so he could keep building his funnel.
That’s what unstoppable looks like.
And you?
If you’re constantly bouncing from one shiny thing to another, you’re not broken.
You’re just unclear.
So stop collecting tools and start defining your why.
Because until you get crystal clear on what you want—and what you're no longer willing to tolerate—you’ll keep getting dragged by life instead of driving it.

FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE
The Anti-Viral Content Playbook with Garin Etcheberry
Ever feel like you’re posting non-stop but no one’s buying? In this episode, I sit down with Garin Etcheberry, founder of Lazy Longform and Sixty Second Shows, to dismantle the idea that going viral equals getting paid.
We dive into why viral content kills trust, how to build binge-worthy media that sells, and how to create content that fuels your list, not just your ego. Garin shares wild behind-the-scenes stories from working with Mike Dillard and James Altucher, to helping a Miss Olympia open up about body image.
If you’re ready to stop chasing likes and start building a brand that converts, grab your coffee and hit play.

CURATED READS
“The Great Ones” by Don Barden
If you're tired of business books that read like a tax manual written by a robot with zero caffeine… this one will hit you like a shot of espresso to the brain.
The Great Ones isn’t your typical “how-to” yawn-fest.
It’s a fable.
Which means it sneaks up on you.
You’re cruising through what feels like a story—next thing you know, it’s tearing open your mindset and shoving elite-level sales psychology straight into your business brain.
The book pulls back the curtain on what separates the 1% of top performers from the sea of grinders and strugglers.
Spoiler alert: it’s not talent. It’s not a hustle.
It’s something deeper… and disturbingly simple.
You’ll walk away with tools that don’t just help you sell more, but help you think clearly, lead better, and command results like you actually own the place.
Perfect for list builders, affiliate marketers, copywriters, and anyone tired of being average.
Read it once. Then read it again with a highlighter. Then send a copy to that friend who keeps “researching” instead of selling.
